Transportation choices to Arles

We will be flying from USA, so will have to start from one of the gateway cities in Europe and there are many choices. For those of you in Northern Europe, do you fly, take the train, all of the above? Do you fly or take train to Montpellier and then get to Arles by bus or some other way? Fly to Toulouse and train to Arles? Is it easier to start from Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfort? etc., etc., etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Merci

Re: Transportation choices to Arles

Anything goes! From Toulouse to Arles, it's 4-5 hours by train, from Montpellier to Arles 1-1.5 hours, from Marseille to Arles nearly 1 hour, and from Lyon to Arles 2-3 hours. If you take the fast train TGV, it happens that you stop at Avignon-TGV, from there you have to take the bus to Arles.

If you prefer to fly to another city, you have the choice between flying to one of the cited cities or taking the train. As the trains are of good quality and reliability, taking the train means that you spend more time traveling, but that you will see a lot of beautiful landscapes.
